In the event of inclement weather or other emergencies, the determination of school closings or delayed openings will be made prior to 6:00 a.m. For delayed openings, parents should continue listening to the television stations or call the School Closing Information Number in the event it will become necessary to change a delayed opening to an all day closing.
In the event of inclement weather or emergencies after school opens, a determination for early release will be announced. A contingency plan should be filed with your child's school as to whether the child should go home, or go to a neighbor or relative when schools are dismissed early.
Because of the difference in dismissal times for outlying schools and in-town schools, two different times will be announced when schools are released early. The earlier of the two dismissal times announced will always be for the outlying schools which include Check Elementary, Indian Valley Elementary and Willis Elementary. The later of the two dismissal times will be for the in-town schools which include Floyd Elementary and Floyd County High. In the event of early dismissals due to emergency conditions, one of the following announcements will be used:
