Dear Floyd County Public Schools Faculty and Staff:
In February, 2016, School Board members and I met with Dr. Wayne Worner to discuss our school division and the possibility of conducting a “climate study” to assess the condition of the school system. Dr. Worner is a former Dean of the College of Education at Virginia Tech and owner of Education Programs and Services LLC, which provides a broad range of programs and services to school divisions for the past 30 years.
Dr. Worner suggested a “climate survey” that he had used in the past with other school divisions with similar concerns. He had found this helpful in understanding the condition of a school division as well as to narrow the focus for actions that would take place in the future that may produce positive outcomes.
Over 300 of you took this survey and the results were largely positive while providing clear insight into areas that could use some work. You will find attached the survey results along with a summary detailing the findings.
When we return to school we will be addressing these results and asking for your participation in helping us move forward in a positive direction. If you have any questions or concerns about the results please feel free to contact me or any School Board Member.
Thanks again for your participation. Together we will strive to continue to make our schools great places to teach and learn.
Kevin Harris, Division Superintendent
