Who We Are and Contact Information Carrie Dalton- B.S. in Interdisciplinary Studies; Masters of Science in Special Education with certification in Learning Disabilities, Intellectual Disabilities, Emotional Disabilities. Six years of teaching experience and currently teaching at Floyd County High School, specializing in students with reading disabilities. Experience working with students identified within the ASD spectrum as well as their parents. Beth Hedrick - B.S. Degree in Elementary Education from Concord University and her Masters of Science in Curriculum and Instruction from Radford University. She is a teacher at Floyd Elementary and the parent of a fifth grade student with mild autism. In addition, Beth is also responsible for creating the quarterly FAST newsletter. Susan Hamilton - B.S. in elementary and early childhood education, certification in Specific Learning Disabilities, Mental Retardation, Emotional Disturbance, Severe Disabilities, and Autism Studies. Worked with students in home and in school with behavioral difficulties and autistic tendencies or an ASD diagnosis for four years. Taught grades K-5 at a psychiatric hospital for two years. Special Educator at Willis Elem. for grades 3-7 for seven years. Heidi Hawkins - Ed.S. in School Psychology & M.S. in Psychology from Radford University in 2007. In addition to taking Autism graduate courses, she has attended numerous regional and state conferences, trainings, and workshops on Autism Spectrum Disorders. She has presented at the Southwest Virginia Regional Autism Conference and at many local community workshops, in addition to providing regular faculty and staff trainings. Furthermore, Heidi collaborated with state stakeholders to develop a set of Autism Guidelines for Virginia’s school systems. She attends regular meetings with leaders from across the state in Autism and completed national training on the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule in collaboration with the Emory Center and the Center for Disease Control, providing better identification measures and intervention goals for children. Through Heidi’s personal experiences with Autism Spectrum Disorder, she has developed a passion for leading the Floyd Autism Support Team into the future. Bea Hubbard – B.S. in Psychology with an emphasis in Counseling, with licensure in Intellectual Disabilties, Specific Learning Disabilities and Mental Retardation from University of Virginia at Wise. She has taught at Floyd County High School since August of 1999. Prior to teaching she worked as an Educational Consultant with the Autism Training and Family Support Program based in Richmond, Virginia. In addition to her employment experience with children and adults with Autism, she has a 24 year old son with significant Autism. She has spent the last 21 years living with, sharing experiences relating to, and researching issues directly impacting individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder, their families and their community. Debbie Snellings - B.S. in Early Childhood Education; Masters in Reading from Radford University. Certification in LD, ED, MR and thirty years of teaching experience in Special Education at the elementary and high school level. Currently placed as a Special Education teacher at Check Elementary. Training and experience in identifying and working with ASD students. Deanna Swortzel - B.S. in Elementary Education from Radford University. Deanna has 5 years teaching experience and is currently a Prevention Specialist with New River Valley Community Services. She has attended several workshops and trainings on identifying and treatment of ASD. She also has personal experience of working with children on the spectrum as well as their parents. Jessica Warren - B.S. in Interdisciplinary Studies, with licensure in early childhood education and early childhood special education. Currently teaching and evaluating children as an early childhood special education community teacher for Floyd County Public schools. In addition to having personal experiences with young children with Autism Spectrum Disorders, she has attended multiple trainings, conferences, and workshops for children with ASD and their families. Most recently, Jessi along with another team member represented her team at the state leadership conference. Jessi has a personal connection to Autism Spectrum Disorder that drives her enthusiasm to learn more and teach others along the way! Beth Willoughby - B.S. in Communication Science and Disorders and M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology from Radford University. Over twenty years of experience as a Speech-Language Pathologist working with children with all types of communication disorders, including Autism. Currently working with children in various county preschool programs and at Indian Valley Elementary. Also affiliated with Radford University as an off-campus supervisor of graduate students.
