Special Education Advisory Board

What are the purposes of the Special Education Advisory Board?

(Cited from 8 VAC 20-80-90 of the Regulations of Governing Special

Education Programs for Children with Disabilities, effective March

27, 2002)

 

E.2. The functions of the local advisory shall be as follows:

1. Advise Floyd County Public School of unmet needs in the education of children with disabilities;

2. Assist Floyd County Public Schools in the formulation and development of plans for improving performance of children with disabilities;

3. Participate in the development of priorities and strategies for meeting the identified needs of children with disabilities;

4. Assist Floyd County Public Schools in interpreting plans to the community for meeting the special needs of children with disabilities for educational services; and

5. Review the policies and procedures for the provision of special education and related services prior to submission to Floyd County Public Schools and the Virginia Department of Education.

The Special Education Advisory Committee will meet on December 8, 2011; March 9, 2012, and May 10, 2012.  The meetings will be held at the Floyd County School Board Office, 140 Harris Hart Road, NE.   The December 8, 2011 meeting will start at 1:00 p.m. with subsequent meeting times to be determined.
