• A large number of FFA members took the opportunity to visit a farm and go snow tubing on February 14. It is great to see the group bonding and learning on the same trip!

  • Congratulations to the FFA Forestry team for their performance at Fairystone State Park Oct. 19, 2017 in the Southridge Area Competition. In a challenging field of competition, the senior team of Austin Janney, Cyrus Walker, Jacob Dowd, and Cody Hodge took 2nd place in the senior class, with Austin Janney and Jacob Dowd taking 4th and 5th place high individual scores.


    The Junior team of Collin Grubb, Mary Burnette, Aleigha Gray, and Liam Burke took 5th place in the junior division, and the team of Gabe Miller, David Bower, Mason Rakes, and Amber May took 2nd and will go on to compete in the state forestry competition next spring. Mary Burnette placed 9th high individual in the junior class, Collin Grubb took 8th, David Bower placed 7th, and Gabe Miller was the 4th high individual. Congratulations to all!




    The Floyd County High School FFA Forestry Team won their first competition of the year Thursday October 12, 2017 at Claytor Lake State Park. The competition tests students ability to identify over 50 types of native trees in Virginia. They also test their skills in measuring trees, estimating timber volume, evaluating the health and age of trees. The contests also involve reading and navigating by topographic map and compass. The Senior team took 1st place in the Senior competion, and our Junior teams won 1st and 2nd place in the Junior division. All members will go on to compete in the area competition held next week at Fairystone State Park. These young foresters have spent hours of time practicing and studying- go Floyd FFA!
