ICON A-5 Flight Program
ICON A-5 Flight Program Visits Floyd County High School
Students at FCHS had the unique opportunity to explore aviation firsthand through the Virginia Department of Aviation’s ICON A-5 Introduction to Flight Program. The ICON A-5, a light sport amphibian aircraft with folding wings for transport, was brought to campus as part of the department’s outreach to schools across the Commonwealth.
During the visit, students were able to sit in the cockpit of the ICON A-5, talk directly with pilots, try out a flight simulator, and learn about aviation careers. The program provided a hands-on introduction to how aircraft fly and the wide range of opportunities available in the aviation industry.
We are grateful to Flight ICON 5 and the Virginia Department of Aviation for offering this program at no cost to schools. Experiences like this are invaluable in sparking curiosity, broadening students’ horizons, and connecting classroom learning to real-world career opportunities.
