Floyd County Schools has scheduled Kindergarten and Pre-Kindergarten registrations at 6:00 pm as follows:
Check Elementary – Monday, February 25, 2019
Indian Valley Elementary - Tuesday, February 26, 2019
Willis Elementary - Tuesday, March 5, 2019
Floyd Elementary - Thursday, March 7, 2019
If your child will be five on or before September 30, 2019, Virginia School Law states the child must enter either a public or private school. If your child will be three or four on or before September 30, 2019, they may be eligible for enrollment in one of our Pre-Kindergarten programs through Head Start or the public school system.
The Kindergarten registration program at each school will include a general session for parents to complete registration forms, meet members of the school staff, discuss school policies, and visit the Kindergarten rooms. Activities for the children will be conducted by the Kindergarten teachers in their classrooms.
There are currently three Pre-Kindergarten classes for Floyd County Public Schools located at Check Elementary, Floyd Elementary and Willis Elementary. The Pre-Kindergarten registration program at each school will include a time for parents to meet the Pre-Kindergarten staff, complete application forms, and ask questions. There will be activities for the children available. Class size is limited so please register early. The Pre-Kindergarten program in the public schools follows the school calendar and offers bus transportation. Floyd Head Start, which is operated by New River Community Action, Inc., received a federal grant to work jointly with the Virginia Preschool Initiative (VPI) program. An ongoing effort will continue between the State and the Administration of Child and Families to serve at-risk children, families and communities, and promote school readiness for all preschool children.
Parents/Guardians are requested to bring the child’s birth certificate and immunization records. A current physical examination form must be completed before child comes to school. Forms are available at most doctors’ offices and at the Floyd County Health Department. Copies of the form will also be available at school on the day of registration.
Please register your child for any of the above programs for which they are eligible. This is an exciting time in your child’s life and Floyd County Schools want to be a part of it.
